Whether you are running errands, hanging out with friends, or laying by the pool, the top knot will keep your hair out of your way and keep you cool.

Do you ever see the seemingly easy style and think "how cute and simple", then when you try, it seems as if your hair just won't do that? You may be surprised that it's easier than you think; you just have to know the steps, and maybe a few tips to get you through.

Step 1

Pull your hair into a pony tail without pulling your ends all the way through.

Pull all of your hair on top of your head as if you are putting it in a pony tail. As you are pulling the hair through the hair tie the last time, stop pulling through just before the hair comes all the way out of the pony tail. You want enough pulled through to create the top of the knot, but be sure to leave out enough to wrap all the way around it.

* If you have fine hair, it may be necessary to tease the pony tail to make the loop thicker.

Step 2

Twist the tail and wrap it around the knot.

Take the ends that you left out and twist them as you wrap them around the knot you created in step one. Secure it with a bobby pin.

* For fine hair, you may need to tease the ends to make the hair look thicker before you twist it.

Step 3

Finish and spray

To finish, flare out the loop a little and spray a little hairspray and you are ready to go.

Tips

The top knot works best on dirty hair. The styling products you used the day before will help the hair behave better and hold easier.

If you want the hair in front of the top knot to be a little poofy (not slicked down to your head), you can use dry shampoo and lightly tease this area.

If you have fine hair, you will want to tease your hair every step of the way to make it look fuller and thicker.

To help avoid hair breakage, be sure to use gentle hair ties. Never use rubber bands!

There you have it! You should be able to put your hair up quickly in a Top Knot and be ready to go in no time.
