Repair Your Summer Hair

Summer is almost over. It's time to start repairing the damage.

Now that summer is winding down, and Fall is just a few short weeks away, it's time to start to undo some of the abuse we put our hair through during the summer months. Think about it. We lighten our hair more, put it in a pony tail, expose it to chlorinated pool water and salt water at the beach. We also stretch out our salon visits due to vacations and being busy with the kids. Add to that the heat and drying effects of the sun, and it's a wonder that we have any hair left to get us to cooler temperatures.

The damage is already done. Now what can we do? This time of year, most clients start to darken their color a bit in anticipation of cooler weather. Less bleach is a great start, but we also need to deep condition and repair. Joico K-Pak has great conditionning treatments that can be used a couple of times a week to get you on the right track. In-salon treatments will penetrate deeper and go farther with getting you closer to healthy hair.

Some clients will need a clarifying treatment, depending on how much time they spent at the pool and the beach. If your hair has a green tint, or if it feels dry and brittle, it could be from buildup caused from swimming.

I am the guiltiest of putting my hair in a pony tail. I wear my hair up all summer, and it shows! I have the little short hairs around my face and the back of my neck due to breakage from pony tail holders. It's time to ditch the hair ties and start wearing your hair down or pulling it back loosely. Also be gentle while combing out tangles (no ripping tangles out).

Lastly, make an appointment with your stylist. It's time for a trim. They can also advise what your hair needs to be healthy again. Not all conditioning treatments are the same, so ask which is right for your hair. You can schedule an appointment by clicking the "Book Online" tab.

Be kind to your hair. It's the crown you never take off.
